Pittsburg. 4. November 1790.
Sir.
I have received your Letter of the 27th Ulto. enclosing Invoices of Indian Goods which shall on their arrival be forwarded addressed to the acting [undecipherable: D.M.?] at Fort Washington accompanied by the Invoices. — In order to equip a detachment of Troops under the Command of Ensign John McClary which have accompanied Mr. Andrew Ellicott as a Guard and are to continue with him during the time of his running a Line between the [undecipherable] and the Spanish Territory, which is expected to be not less than two years. That detachment Viz 25 Men was therefore furnished with two years Cloathing taken from that appropriated for the Troops of the Upper Posts. It is therefore necessary that that Quantity of Cloathing be immediately replaced together with 200 pair of Shoes in addition. Maj. Laughan informs me that there is in his charge 2000 pair of Shoes together with several other Articles as well as some of the other Articles to a considerable amount at Shepherd's Town and that the [undecipherable] are rather in a perishable Condition. Will it not therefore be proper to have some of them sent forward to supply extra wants of the army.
I am With great Respect
