The Balance now due you is Thirty eight Dollars ⁸²/₁₀₀, which sum you will on application receive from M^r Freeman Pay Master, on your giving your receipt therefor. As respects the deductions I have made from your account of Horse Hire & expences. I have to answer that your duty as Adjutant requires a Horse for which the Public has provided by allowing you Forage — any duty therefore which may call you on Horse back — you cannot in my opinion be allowed any Horse Hire — and as respects the expences, the Rations of an Officer have generally been considered as adequate. These rules have generally governed in the settlement of Accounts here, if there be any exceptions, they have escaped my Notice — as they would have been rejected. I am &c W^m Simmons Acct
