Your letter of the 24th Ulto to the Secretary of War is received, and the sum of four hundred Dollars advanced to Nicholas Smith the Bearer thereof on account of your Pay & Subsistence — Before a final settlement thereof can take place, you will have to state your account there for, as well as that for Recruiting & Contingencies for mustering your men for which you received advances — The account when stated you will attest to before a Magistrate & forward them with the Vouchers to this Office; and if any Balance remains due you, it shall be paid to whom you may direct after examination thereof.

My last letter to you was of the 18th ulto. relative to the Accounts of Capt Daniel Britt, since which I have not recd any from you. Capt Edward D. Turner who left Town two days ago for the Army has in charge the sum of Sixty five thousand Dollars in Bank Notes as per List enclosed. This sum is the monthly sum you are authorized to draw for, it is thought will be sufficient to complete the averages of the Army up to the last day of October, the day, the new arrangement takes place.
