Pittsburg October 28^th 1796 S^rs I have received your letter of the 21^st ins^t and shall agreeable to your directions apply the money you mentions to Pay the of the Troops, at the upper posts for August 1796 and expect to transmit Muster and Pay Rolls of all the Detachments at the upper Posts for June July & August by next Post. The Detachment under the command of Ensign John M. Clary which has accompanied M^r Andrew Ellicott is paid up to the 1^st of Oct^r — and M^r M^cClary is furnished with one years Clothing in advance for his Detachment. M^r Ellicott and his Attendants embarked and descended the Ohio on the 23^d inst^t on board three Keel Boats from Kentucky Boat — The Boats freight required being insufficient to carry his Stores, a ppointea and Attendants. On his Requisition two other boats and a small batteau have been furnished to him and several articles, also on his Requisition have been purchased for him or furnished out of the public Stores a particular account of which is this day transmitted to the Hon^ble the Secretary of State agreeably to his direction, the aggregate amount of which is 2654 dollars 78¾ cents. This Expenditure of the U. S. I am informed is to be charged to account of the Spanish Treaty. It is therefore to have been by five horses delivered by M^r Ellicott at this post estimated at $490 dollars. These Horses have been taken into the Q^r M^r Dep^t and are now, together with several others, employed in carrying a party of Indian Chiefs and their attendants to Phil^a under the direction of Cap^t John Heth who set off from this Place Yesterday.
