R.P.O. 401310.] West Point Oct. 22^d 1796 Sir, In obedience to the directions of the Commandant an Estimate of Clothing supposed necessary for the Winter consumption of the Corps of Artillerists & Engineers, was sometime since taken, & I suppose forwarded to you. As we have received no information when the supplies may be expected, I take liberty to represent the very great want, which many of the men must soon experience from the deficiency of thick clothing should they be long delayed. On the 1^st of the present month all the woolen overalls on hand were delivered out, when there were hardly sufficient to allow each man a pair. A like necessity of Sergeants & Musicians clothing is also felt. As the cold season is fast approaching, the sooner supplies can be forwarded, the more acceptable.
