I have received your letter of the 14th inst together with one of same date from Mr Samuel Lewis enclosing 2600 Dollars in Post Notes of the Bank of the United States on account of pay Subsistence & Forage of the Troops at the upper Posts of the Ohio for June & July 1796 and for which a Receipt is enclosed agreeable to Direction of Mr Lewis.
Mr Ellicott is still here prepared to set off the moment the water is sufficiently high. Genl Wilkinson & family arrived here Yesterday on his way to Phila and Capt. [undecipherable] Smith is expected this day from Detroit via [undecipherable] Fort Franklin having in Charge 8 Shawnee Chippewa [undecipherable] Mission Indians together with Interpreter [undecipherable] in [undecipherable] to Phila
A Part of the round Jackets and Trowsers are sold and the sales will be continued on market days until the whole are sold.
My Letter of the 4th instant I presume has informed you of my having Drawn on you in favor of James Ross at 10 days sight for 1450 Dollars – this sum added to that obtained this day from Mr Samuel Lewis amounts to more than sufficient for Pay & Forage &c for June & July – the same the balance may be applied to pay &c of the Troops for August & Sep.
