War Office, October 21, 1796. Sir, I have received your letter of the 14^th instant. It appeared by your former letters that the order given by General Knox in June 1794 for a supply of powder, lead &c. for the Six Nations had not been complied with, & therefore directed that M^r Houdin Storekeeper at Albany should forward to your address the five hundred weight of best musket or rifle powder, one thousand weight of lead and two thousand flints which were mentioned in that order, provided they were not already sent on. M^r Houdin not recollecting the order or that he had sent on the Articles agreeably thereto, I find has forwarded to you a supply equal to that directed by General Knox in 1^st 94 which it was by no means my intention to have done. You will therefore inform the Nation to whom those last Articles may be delivered, that the amount of them together with the charges of transportation will be deducted from the next years annuity.
