Know all Men by these Presents, That George Cavender late a Soldier in the New Jersey Line in the Service of the United States Have constituted, made and appointed, and by these Presents do constitute, make, and appoint my trusty and loving Friend John [undecipherable] lawful [undecipherable], for my and in my Name and Stead, and to my Use, to ask, demand, sue for, levy, recover and receive, all such Sum and Sums of Money, Debts, Rents, Goods, Wares, Dues, Accounts, and other Demands whatsoever, which are or shall be due, owing, payable, and belonging to me or detained from me any Manner of Ways or Means whatsoever by the United States or any State and also to receive my Land pay or my Services as be fore said giving and granting unto my said Attorney, by these Presents, my full and whole Powers, Strength and Authority, in and about the Premises, to have, use and take, all lawful Ways and Means in my Name for the Recovery thereof, and upon the Receipt of any such Debts, Dues or Sums of Money aforesaid; Acquittances, or other sufficient Discharges, for me and in my Name, to make, seal and deliver, and generally all and every other Act and Acts, Thing and Things, Device or Devices, in the Law whatsoever, needful and necessary to be done in and about the Premises, for me and in my Name to do, execute and perform, as fully, largely and amply, to all Intents and Purposes, as I might or could do, if I was personally present; or as if the Matter required more especial Authority than is herein given; and Attorneys one or more under [undecipherable] for the Purpose aforesaid, to make and constitute, and again at Pleasure to revoke; ratifying, allowing and holding, for firm and effectual, all and whatsoever my said Attorney shall lawfully do in and about the Premises, by Virtue hereof. IN WITNESS whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal, this 19 Day of October in the 21 Year of American Independence, Annoque Domini, One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sealed and delivered in the Presence of his George X Cavender [seal] mark George Daly[?] Jacob Peters On the 19^th day of October 1796 came before me the Subscriber one of the Justices of the peace for the County of New Castle State of Delaware the to then Named George [Cavender?] and acknowledged the Said to then power of Attorney to be his free Act and deed and desired that the Same Might be Recorded. Before J^no Sea [Newark?] personally came and appeared before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace for the county of New [Castle?] by the State of Delaware [Jacob?] Peters one of the subscribing witnesses to the written power of Attorney and being duly sworn thereto to the [undecipherable] doth declare and say that he is well acquainted with George [Cavender?] the within Named [Soldier?] and Know him when he was a Soldier in the New Jersey Line and further saith that he served during the whole war in the New Jersey Line and I do hereby certify, that I am acquainted with Jacob Peters and have known him upwards of 12 years. October 20^th 1796 Before J^no Sea State of Delaware S.S. I, James Booth, Secretary of the said State of Delaware do hereby certify to all whom it may concern, that John Sea Esquire who hath subscribed the two above Certificates is one of the Justices of the peace for the county of New Castle in the said State of Delaware; duly Commissioned and sworn; and that due Faith and Credit ought to be given to such his attestations.
