War Office October 18. 1796
Sir,
I transmit you a copy of the estimate for Clothing &c which has been just sent to the Secretary of the Treasury. The letter which accompanied it is much the same as what I put into your hands when here — It will therefore be necessary that patterns for every article mentioned in the estimate should be ready for the inspection of persons desirous to contract, I have therefore request that you would be pleased to have them prepared as soon as may be that there may be no delay further delay if possible — You mentioned that you had in store articles that might answer for those that are deficient — Would it not be well to send them up to the Office that if approved, the Seal of the Office might be put on them — If it should be in your way, I would thank you to call in —
I am Sir
most respectfully
