Sir, My being under a necessity of setting off on the 22^d Ultimo to visit the posts of Fort Franklin, Le Boeuf, & Presque isle. Your letters of the 18^th & 23^d Ultimo arrived at Pittsburg in my absence & also that of the 3^d Instant on the day of my return, but so late that I had not then the pleasure of acknowledging the receipt of it. I find your letter of the 18^th Ultimo enclosed two thousand Dollars in Post Notes, that of the 25^th Eighteen Hundred Dollars & that of the 3^d Instant one thousand Dollars also in Post Notes, the whole of which has come safe to hand & I find that M^r Park has agreeably to my Orders advised you of the receipts of the two former sums. Several Waggons with Hospital Stores have lately arrived, and generally in good order, but on inspecting a load delivered by Matthew Daiton Barrell N^o 23 said to contain 179 lbs Coffee was found to contain Rice only — and Barrel N^o 6 of James Hamiltons load said to of 31 Gallons Spirits & to weigh Cst 2-3-9^oz is marked on the Cask Cst 2-2-9^oz which is precisely the weight at this place the Cask being nearly full. — I am much obliged to you for the attention you have paid to my business with M^r Grier & have to request you to continue your attention until the business is compleated. The Quarter Master General is on his way from Head Quarters & expected on Saturday next at this place, he is retiring from public business & will [undecipherable] you shortly in order to compleat a settlement of his public Accounts. My Return up to the 1^st October will be ready & transmitted by next Post. I am at a loss to know whether any separate appropriation of Medicine & Hospital Stores for the upper Posts on the Ohio has been made or and to take a proper supply for those Posts from the Quantity now here & coming forward — I presume it would be improper to delay the transportation of all the Stores at this place for your answer as the season for Navigating the Ohio is far advanced & Boats now waiting I shall therefore in a few days, ship the greater part of the Stores for Fort Washington. Have had expectation of a barrel of Sugar arri-ving for family use in some one of the late Waggons. — Your letter of the 9^th Instant is this moment come to hand, together with the Packet of Newspapers. You will find enclosed James Hamiltons Note for twenty Dollars, which sum please to retain at settlement of his Waggon Account & place to my Credit.
