Pittsburg October 14 1796 Sir I have received your letters of the 6^th & 7^th instant, the latter enclosing 20 Post Notes of 100 dollars each, Amount 2000 dollars on account of my requisition for the Expenditures of the 3^rd Quarter of the current year. Being much hurried this day by M^r Ellicott preparing for Departure I am not able to answer your letter of the 6^th but shall not neglect it by next post or perhaps sooner. — I am greatly indebted to you for your attention to my interest with the Secretary of War. Albert Gallatin is again elected Representative for Allegheny & Washington Counties — from this you will infer that the Spirit of 1793 & 1794 still pervades the Multitudes in these Counties.
