Pittsburg 7^th October 1796 Sir Your letter of the 30^th Ultimo together with Blank Muster Pay and Receipt Rolls are received. I shall endeavor to obtain Money on Draft as you desire for paying of the Troops for June and July 1796 but I am apprehensive that the Long sight you mention will occasion a difficulty — Should it be the case I shall advise you of it by next posts or sooner if an opportunity offers by a private Hand. In order to accomodate L^t John Polhemus on his preparing to descend the Ohio to Head Quarters in June 1795 I advanced him Thirty two dollars in addition to his pay up to the first of July then next, for which sum he has this day drawn on you he being now on his way to Phil^a — I have therefore to beg of you to accept of the draft when presented. N.B. Upon Enquiry I find that the amount of pay for the Troops of the upper posts for two months cannot be obtained of the Merchants here at present, you are therefore requested to have the necessary sum remitted as soon as possible I presume that 2600 dollars will be nearly the amount necessary I am Sir Yr ob Ser [H.] M^r Simmons Esq^r Au.
