Pittsburg 7th October 1796.
Sir,
Your letter of the 30th Ultimo together with Blank Muster, Pay & Receipt Rolls are recd. I shall endeavour to obtain money on Drafts as you direct for pay of the Troops for June & July 1796 but I am apprehensive that the long sight you mention will occasion a difficulty should this be the case I shall advise you of it by the next post, or sooner if an opportunity offers by private hands.
In order to accomodate Lieut John Polhemus on his preparing to descend the Ohio to Head Quarters in June 1795 I advanced him thirty two dollars in addition to his pay up to the first of July 1795, for which Sum he has this day drawn on you he being now on his way to Philadelphia, I have therefore to beg of your acceptance of this draft when presented.
I am
Sir your
ob Servant.

N:B. Upon enquiry I find that the amount of Pay for the Troops of the upper posts for two months cannot be obtained of the Merchants here at present, you are therefore requested to have the necessary sum remitted as soon as possible, I presume that 2000 dollars will be nearly the amount necessary.
Yours ob Servant
