Contract for Provisions

100%

Pittsburg 7th October 1796 Sir, I have this day received your Letter of the 20th & 30th Ultimo the former respecting the flour tendered by Scott & Ernest to which I shall pay immediate attention but I am apprehensive that Colo. OHara will receive it particularly for two reasons viz. that the prices at which it was purchased is much higher than his contract: Secondly, that it has been intimated that the greater part of that flour is now unfit for use. Mr. Ellicott is still here and I shall furnish his supply for decending the river out of that Deposit provided it is fit for use and shall have a further quantity of it repacked into Kegs as a further supply for Mr. Ellicots party to be transported by Packhorses after their Arrival at Natchez. I am unable at present with precision to determine the Means of Transportation that may be necessary at Le Boeuf & Presqu’isle but shall set off for these posts as soon as Mr. Ellicott takes his Departure and shall then determine precisely what may be necessary to transportation of Stores Fuel &c. at these posts. I am Sir Your Ob. Serv IC The Hon’ble James Mc.Henry Sec’y of War
