Sir
Your pay and Muster Roll to the 31st August has been under examination, and the amount found due thereon being 532 2/100 Drs will be remitted as usual to Edward Carrington Supervisor at Richmond, to whom you will give your duplicate Receipts, holding yourself accountable for the due application thereof. The inclosed Receipt Roll will account for the differences which arose on examination, which you will return to this Office when you have paid your men and obtained the signatures thereto, to be passed to your Credit. The pay of Christian Goode was deducted from your former pay Roll, being returned by you, absent without leave, which in all cases are treated as deserters and their pay forfeited accordingly. —
You have more sergeants than the Law will allow, notwithstanding the whole have been allowed pay as sergeants on this settlement, it cannot be done in future. You will therefore arrange them in such manner as to have only the number authorized by Law in the next Pay Roll — I sometime since wrote you to forward the inlistments which ought to have accompanied your recruiting account; — they have not yet arrived, and consequently cannot proceed with the examination of your accounts
