Sir
I this moment received your letter of the 22 Inst. And am sorry to learn that you should by any particular request be led from the line of your duty as Pay Master. Your payment to the detachment under the command of Capt. Littlefield was highly improper, and will create the greatest confusion in the Accounts here; as I have sent on the Money Some days ago to Albany to Lieut. Vischer for the Pay of all the Troops under the command of Capt. Littlefield for the same period; this will show you the necessity of adhering strictly to the Instructions you have rec'd from this Office. How it will be rectified I am at present at a loss to know

Sir
By a letter just received from Mr Freeman Tempt Pay Mast at West Point, I find he has paid the detachment under the command of Capt. Littlefield for [undecipherable] upon the affidavit which is included in the remittance made. I have therefore to request that you will apply the surplus money in your hands to the pay of the detachment for the month of Sept. For that purpose I inclose you Blank Pay, Muster & Receipt Rolls. You will accordingly have the detachment mustered, and from the Muster Roll make out a Pay Roll and take the Men's Receipts on the Receipt Roll; all of which You will forthwith transmit to this Office after you have completed the Payment; I have to request that you will be as correct as possible in the transacting this Business, as any errors would create Confusion in the Accounts here
