Sir!
I acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 17th Augt on the 16th inst when I promised more fully to answer it on a subsequent post day.
A decision on the unauthorized Militia Services I suppose will ultimately take place by Congress; nothing has been done in it since I last wrote you on the subject.
Your account Current has not yet been examined neither has Captns Tinsley's & Eaton's owing to the immediate press of Business preparing for the meeting of Congress, and which will continue for some time yet; as soon as possible they shall meet an examination and the result communicated to you.
A list of the dates of Inlistments of those men who you could not ascertain I have after a long search been unable to find, except Daniel Gaskill of Captn Mc Eaton's Coy who inlisted with Lieuta Cox 11th July 1794. To enable me to ascertain the others it will be necessary for you to send an account where they were inlisted & the Officers name who inlisted them — this information can be obtained from the men.
Capt Dickinson's accounts have not yet been examined but they shall be of the first (after the present hurry of Business is over) that shall receive an examination.
The accounts of Ensr Mc Call mentioned in your letter have been received & will in turn meet an examination.
Your estimate for the months of June & July of the regular Troops in Georgia has been handed to the Secy of War who after adding one months pay & forage thereto so as to compleat their pay to the first of the present month, and the pay of Mr Witney to the same day has issued a Warrant for Six thousand four hundred & fifty three Dollars the amount thereof which will be by this days post transmitted to Daniel Stevens Supr Charleston Sa Carolina, there to remain as usual Subject to your orders. The utmost dispatch is necessary in obtaining this money and in making the payments to the Troops, so as to be in time agreeably to the act of Congress [undecipherable] mentioned to you on this subject. Mr Stevens is directed to inform you immediately on the receipt thereof, that no time may be lost after he receives it. In the mean time as your Estimates arrive here remittances will be made as you may direct.
The blank Muster & Pay Rolls mentioned by you to be so much wanted are by this opportunity forwarded to Collo Gaither at St Mary's.
