Scott's letter of 22 Sept. 1796.] Major General Charles Scott Sir Having been appointed Paymasters to the deficient battalions of Kentucky mounted Volunteers in the service of the united States for 1794, under your command, and having received only a compensation for our services to the 26^th October in the same year, we have to request that you would be obliging enough to address his Excellency the Secretary of War, touching the nature of the tedious and indeed expensive duty assigned us.
