and that he stands charg'd on the Books of this office with a balance on that day of two hundred & thirty two Dollars 53/100 which with the advance of two hundred & twenty Dollars for which you have now issu'd a Warrant will amount to 452 53/100 upwards of eight months pay in advance which includes upwards of four months in the ensuing year for which there is no appropriation — The mode of accounting for this advance proposed by Major Ricardo in his letter to you under Date of 4^th Sept. inst. if adopted by you will cause a suspension of the Settlement of his account for upwards of 18 months.
