If you will examin my subsistance account you will find I got my Furlough from Fort Hamilton where I then had the Honor of Command. It ever has been a Principle with the Officers of the Army and has allways been allowed. for them to make up their subsistance by [undecipherable: probable reading "when"] they leave one post or Place, for another. They make out their Subsistance at the, price of the Post going to from the time they leave the Post going from. for instance, of my subsistance [undecipherable] you have as you will find. I have made my account directly from Fort Hamilton to Boston. and there continued it untill I left it for West Point agreeably to the Custom and Practice of the Western Army. and what has allways been allowed, I am extremely sorry my account should be so troublesome to the Accountant, more particularly when it has been found still is I hope [undecipherable] understood by most People who has had business at the Accountants Office that it has been [undecipherable: probable reading "won"] with ease and Chearfullness. I hope my account may be conceived of as a just One by M^r. Simmons who I presume will be so accommodating as to have it Settled and give me a draught on the Supervisor at Boston for the balance. I am at this Place on the Purpose of carrying my family to West Point. of course shall feel myself highly Obliged by the Accountant in directing my account to be paid me at this Place.
