Sir I enclose you a muster Roll of my Detachment for the Month of May 1796. The Pay received of [undecipherable] Commissary for the same Month, amounting to three hundred thirty three dollars and twenty eight Cents. the Amount of Pay accounted for by the Muster Roll amounting to three hundred thirty eight dollars and twenty eight Cents. The Contrast between the Pay & Muster Rolls was occasioned by the Desertion of [undecipherable] Killivine a Private from my Detachment which would have left a ballance of four dollars in my hands. however, Samd Johnston, late a Drummer in my Detachment had been sent to Pittsburght for his discharge, had then applied to Mayr Craig for his Pay, Mayr Craig furnished him for the Months of March & April, and took Johnstons Receipt for the same, on a Blank Roll which was afterwards sent me for my Detachment muster Rolls for May 1796. and from this circumstance I found it Necessary to bring Johnstons Receipt forward in the Rolls for May, which otherwise I should have supposed to have been Improper.
After the Rolls for May 96, are duly examined, I will thank you to pass the Amount of the Muster Rolls to my Credit
with great respect
