[who are generally Captains or Subaltens] do the Duty of Pay Master to their detachments without asking any Compensation. If Ensⁿ McCall has been at any extra expence in consequence of such Duty I should think that he would be reimbursed. But as to Compensation I can at present only say I know of no precedent for allowing any. If his services should appear a representation thereof that they are too extensive and laborious for the Captain or Subaltern at Fort Fidius to perform I dare say he will be made an allowance, In the mean time however, he may be continued doing the Duty under these circumstances.
