I received your letter of the 8th Inst enclosing the account of David Stanton which will be entered to your Credit leaving a balance to your Debit on the Books of this Office of Three Dollars & 36/100.
I have now to inform you that a remittance has been made to Nicholas Fish Esqr Supervisor New York amounting to two Thousand three hundred & seventy four Dollars & 83/100 to be paid to you for the Pay & Forage of the Corps of Artillerists & Engineers for the month of June 1796. which sum you will accordingly receive and give duplicate receipts to be accountable therefor as usual.
For the money you placed into the hands of Mr Fleming on your leaving West Point, as well as that placed in his hands for the Pay of the Corps for the month of May, he can now account with you for. You will require of him an account Current charging himself with the Monies received & crediting the amount paid and shewing the Balance remaining in his hands which he is to pay to you; the whole of the payments to be supported by proper vouchers subject to a re-examination at this Office: You will then transmit the account & Vouchers here, when the whole will be finally settled & closed after Examination.
Herewith you will receive two Packages of Blank receipt Rolls.
Enclosed is a receipt of Daniel Galbraith Artificer in Capt Littlefields Company for one months pay I advanced him while in New York, finding him there in the greatest necessity — you will please to stop the amount and transmit it to me by some private hand coming to this City
