I received your letter of the 2d Inst as well as a former one signed Peter Hazard, in answer to which I have to inform you that there are three of your name on the Rhode Island Register, two of which are noted to have deserted, the other has been settled with — so that you can have no claim against the United States. — If you will note the particular regiment & Company you belong'd to I will give you information which of the three answers your description — If the latter I can give you a certificate who received your pay. I am &c.
