Horsemen's Swords in Place of Sergeant's Swords
Document 1796As directed by Major Hodgdon, the following items are forwarded to Captain Gibson at Staunton: swords with belts, a drum and fife, a horseman's tent, common tents, camp kettles, axes, and gun powder. All are in good order except the only swords available were the light horseman's type which are forwarded instead of the heavier sergeant's swords that were requested. If they are not suitable, Major Greaton will exhchange them and pay Gibson the difference to be credited to the United States.
