Pittsburg July 15^th 1796. Sir Your letter of the 7 & 8 instant are both received. The former covering an Invoice of Contents of Case A^o 20. of Ransae Willson's Load which I have compared with the Waggoners Invoice in which the 100 Inf^y priv. Vests have been omitted and as the packages are forward, I shall transmit to Col^o Meigs the Invoice you have sent, and inform him of the omission — charge him with the 100 Vests. Your letter of the 8^th I found enclosing 1000 dollars Viz ten post Notes of 100 Dollars each. I have been preparing to transmit my Vouchers of Issues of D^r Dep^t for which purpose as they were almost innumerable & too voluminous to be sent by post, I am reducing them from their bulk by consolidating the small ones into monthly Vouchers. Col^o Burtler is now signing the new Vouchers & comparing them with the old ones which he cancels — he does as me pass Vouchers have passed through his hand, which will be in a few days they shall be transmitted. I find that Bayonets can be manufactured by R^p Campbells Armourers, therefore if you have not already sent forward those supplied to you for they may be omitted but files are much wanted. It is with reluctance that I even lay a burthen on my friends but a solicitude that you have always shewn to my interest prompts me to beg of you to once more call on the Secretary of War and request a decision on my claim of compensation for extra Services in ordnance and Cloathing Department. If the Secretary of War will take the trouble of turning to Gen^l Henry's letter to me respecting the Cloathing sent forward during the yellow fever, he will see the task then imposed on me, and which was executed with promptitude at every sacrifice, merits a compensation at least equal to all I claim.
