If Mr. Fox stays at each place until the timbers of all kinds are actually arranged into their distinct parcels, much time will be lost before he can report the state of the whole at the three places. Mr. Fox, by examining the timbers, can put distinctive marks upon them, agreeably to which they may be arranged in his absence. 2. It would seem desirable, in order to save time, that this examination of the naval stores should be postponed until Mr. Fox shall have made his report, which he may do from Portsmouth; and then stay there, and afterward at Boston & New York, for the purposes not immediately connected with the building of the Algerine frigate. Clas. 5. N^o. 2. Plank will be wanted for Algiers. 1500 of pine (I suppose hard pine) and 1500 of oak (suppose white oak) each plank 6 inches thick & 44 feet long [no breadth is designated] Perhaps some of the plank at the yards may answer for Algiers. Masts & yards will also be wanted for Algiers. Of all these I send herewith a list, the places and terms of obtaining which may be a subject of Mr. Fox's enquiry. a. This enquiry to be performed after he shall have made his report relative to the materials & building of the Algerine frigate. b. ditto c. ditto d. * copper bolts, sheet copper for sheathing, and the terms for putting on the latter.
