I enclose you a packet of vouchers, and two hundred & twenty three dollars & 12½ cents. — I also enclose you an account of articles purchased by Cap^t Baudin in Albany, for Captain Bruff's detachment. I am very busily employed paying the corps of artillerists & engineers their May pay. I find it an exceedingly disagreeable piece of business. I would not, as I told Colonel Rochefontaine a few days ago, experience the trouble & vexation again I had to that time, with the May pay, for an hundred dollars. — I have p[undecipherable] a considerable of money to the hired mechanics on their May & June pay. I have six carpenters and one blacksmith, whom I hired, good workmen. As their work is indispensibly necessary I should be sorry to discharge them — especially as such honest, good workmen as they are. At this season of the year, it is very very improbably could be procured.
