Fort Washington 11 July 1796 Sir, I have been directed by the Commander in chief to purchase ten horses for occasional Service & procure additional means of transport for Q^t Mast^r Stores and Indian goods for this place. Taken together with a quantity of corn which will have to be procured, and the current expences of the department, will require a considerable Sum of money. I shall be obliged to raise it in Kentucky on Bills for which you favor a draft at value on you immediately for twenty thousand Dollars. it is expedient that this sum will not be immediately [undecipherable] requisite, but I cannot expect to raise money on Bills at Detroit & other advanced posts, it will be necessary to carry money with me from this country.
