Willson Governors Island New York Department of War Accountants Office July 11^th 1796 Sir In the absence of the Accountant I have to acknowledge the receipt of your Letter of the 8^th Inst^t enclosing your muster & Pay Roll for the last month — the pay roll has been examined amounting to one hundred & twelve Dollars which sum you will receive from Nicholas Fish Esq^r & for which you will give him duplicate Rec^ts to be accountable for the Disbursement thereof agreeably to the enclosed rec. Roll. — I inclose you Blank Muster Pay & Rec. Rolls, & in future you will please make out your own rec. Rolls. In answer to your question I have to inform you that the Contractor is not obliged to furnish you with money instead of your rations; If you don't wish to draw your rations you will receive pay therefor at the contract price from this office, by stating your account and forwarding the Certificate of the Contractor of the place where you are, that you drew no rations for the Periods charged. — As regards the furnishing of wood, it does not properly come before this Office, but should suppose that if the contract does not set forth that the Contractor is to furnish wood it of course becomes his duty so to do.
