100%

War office 2 July 1796. Dear Sir.
I am much obliged to you for your letter of the 24th ulta which came to hand yesterday.
It will be best, as you suggest, when the money is obtained to send it by a private conveyance. I shall take care that the fee shall correspond with the sum recovered.
It has been mentioned to me, that our friend C–, has a journal of his travels through the country beyond Pittsburg (including that portion of it which is to be sold under the act of Congress) which contains very useful information. If you can procure me the perusal of it ^(if finished) I shall be very thankful both to you and [illegible] both. Such documents are very much wanted for our public offices.
Yours sincerely James McHenry James Ross Esqr [Stamped] Photocopied from original in William L. Clements Library, University of Michigan. Permission of Library Director required for reproduction, use, or publication. Deposit of this copy in other institutions is strictly prohibited.
