I have received your letter of the 25th ult accompanied by two Packets of blank Rolls, and have same time received a letter of similar date from Sam. Lewis Jun. enclosing 8390 70/100 dollars for Pay Subsistence and forage of the Troops at the upper posts of the Ohio for the Months of March April & May 1796. which shall be immediately applied to the purposes intended but Mr Lewis has not considered the great inconveniency that must naturally result in making payments to the Army with Notes of 500 dollars each. You will therefore please to direct that future remittances be made in small notes or Specie or at least a part of it.
