Pittsburg 1^st July 1796. [up] [S^r] I have received your letter of the 25^th ult accompanied by two Packets of blank Rolls, and have same time received a letter of similar date from Sam. Lewis Jun. enclosing 8390 ⁷⁰/₁₀₀ dollars for Pay Subsistence and forage of the Troops at the upper posts of the Ohio for the Months of March April & May 1796. which shall be immediately applied to the purposes intended but M^r Lewis has not considered the great inconveniency that must naturally result in making payments to the Army with Notes of 500 dollars each.
