George Fleming Esq^r Department of War West Point Accountants Office, June 25. 1796 Sir I received your letter of the 4 Inst: enclosing Col.^s Towords Requisition for one hundred and a fifty four Dollars and the officers Receipts to whom the same was advanced. The Money has been forwarded to Cap^t Brett from this office to Albany for the pay of the Company for the Month of May so that your advances must be considered as for the Month of June You will accordingly Receive from Nicholas Fish Esq^r Sup^t New York (to whom you will give your Receipts for the same accordingly) the amount thereof to refund you the same. You will also Receive from him the Sum of Two thousand three hundred and thirty six Dollars for the pay and forage of the Corps of Artillerists and Engineers for the Month of May which Sum you will give your duplicate Receipts for and proceed to pay the Corps agreeably to enclosed Receipt Rolls — after you have made the payments you will transmit the Receipt Rolls to this Office for examination — I am under the necessity of troubling you with the duty of Pay Masters owing to none being appointed at present for the Corps but I hope it will not last long — Col. Towords has requested, that you might be directed to pay the absentees who have balances due them for which Money was placed in your hands by Nehemiah Freeman Temp^l Pay Master — You will accordingly pay the several absentees agreeably to the list of Lieu^t Freeman's taking their Receipts for the same which will be considered as Vouchers for the payment and admitted to your Credit accordingly Enclosed you have a list of retained bounties due to the Men' left at West Point who marched on with Cap^t Brett from Mud Islands which Sums You will pay agreeably thereto and take their Receipts for the same, Enclosed you have a list of Differences arising on the Examination of the pay Rolls of the Corps of Artillerists & Engineers for the Months of May which will account for the difference of the amount of the pay Role & the Sum Remitted.
