War Office, June 14^th, 1796 Sir, By the act to ascertain and fix the military establishment of the United States passed the 30^th May 1796 (a copy of which is enclosed) you will perceive that after the last day of October next only two Companies of Dragoons are to be continued in service. As it is time to enter upon the arrangement contemplated by this act I will thank you to inform me whether the state of your health is such as will permit you to repair in any reasonable time to the Army — or whether you would prefer being considered as a Supernumerary Officer.
