[George Fleming received Dec^r 26 [1796]] West Point, June 7^th 1796 Sir, Your favors of the 20^th & 28 ultimo I have received. I have drawn on the Se- cretary of the Treasury for the two thousand dollars agreeably to the advice you gave me in yours of the 20, and have received a considerable part of the money for my draft. The receving the remainder will, but in part diminish my want of money for public purposes, if the repairing of the powder magazines & [strikethrough: military] storehouses should have to be continued. The money business has, for a great many months, been the source of a great deal of embarrassment & uneasiness to me on several accounts. When I have the pleasure of seeing you I will mention them to you. June 11. A confluence of business that required immediate attention prevented my finishing this letter until today. And now I have only time to mention, that I enclose Col^o. Conard's requisition for one hundred & fifty four dollars, & the Officers & Doctors receipts for the same — and to add, that I have vouchers for about two thousand dollars, but time will not permit my arranging them to go by this mail. I have received your favors of the 30 ultimo & 11 instant. Tomorrow I will write receipts & send them to Col^o. Bird for the April pay of the ordnance detachment. I furnished Col^o.
