[Page 170] War Office May 22. 1796 Sir As soon as the Cargo of live Oak bought by the Schooner Rachel is worked up, you are requested to make out a particular Statement of all the timbers Mortised and disposed in the Yard, in the same manner as was done last year, marking those timbers that are bolted together in frames with a X. That measures may be taken to procure such timbers as are yet wanting, otherwise it is possible the want of a few particular pieces of timber may prevent the frame from being complicated, and amount of retarding the work materially. You are also requested to state what other pieces of live oak are in the Navy Yard. The pieces that are defective, or will not work to the frames, you will please to report by them selves. [M^r Geo. I am very desirous that the Frigate building under your direction should be compleated this Year.
