War Office 30^th May 1792 Sir I take the liberty of representing to you, that in the course of last year, some Clerks in the Office had applied for an encrease of Salary, but I did not, neither did I know any thing of it until some months [strikethrough: af] by this means I have been left in a situation inferio to what I was in before. I request Sir, that if you think my services merit your attention, I may be re instated in the same equality of rank I previously had and received such compensation therein as you may [be] pleased to fix, in consequence of the appropriation of Congress. M^r Jones, who well knows the Individual Services performed in the Office, will I am confident give you a candid representation, if you are pleased to enquire it of him.
