Extract of a Letter from David Henley to the Secretary of War, dated "Knoxville, 23d May 1796"
"The Indians at Nashville in their friendly visits to the Settlements have destroyed some fields of Corn; these have principally been the Choctaws and Chickasaws. Upon the application to me to be allowed some consideration for the destruction thereof, I appointed a person and left it with the sufferers to choose a second; this I did to pay attention to their Petitions, and a check to their making improper demands.
General Robertson seems to be the principal person that has suffered in this way, and as this is a new charge against the Public Care must be taken that it does not bring on others, I have promised nothing, but in all such charges of consequence that do arise, tell them that are interested the Statement of their demands must be laid before the Honorable the Secretaries of Government"
