My dear friend

Since my last We have had no change in the public opinion except that anxiety is increased for the grant of appropriating and additional resentment exists against our member for his Speech on the [treaty?] business,- It may be politic for aught I know for him to count on numbers since he has so openly relinquished all claim to Support from orderly and “respectable” Citizens.- The Committee have found it necessary to renew their correspondence calling on him to explain the reason of suppressing the true number of his instructions- regretting his attempt to create jealousies between the Town + County, and explicit declaring that he does know the opinion of Balt^o to be opposed to his Conduct, and that resolutions expressive of Confidence in the [?] of [?] would never have been started but been for his declaration that by pick- means he could influence more members of Congress.- You know what an Egotist the man is- It is right the Public should also know the means he has adopted to put himself off.- (9) I will attend to the business of M^cMarbury letter - but perhaps he might with some other Perform to be chosen when I inform him that I shall decline going to the legislature - If he does I will write you
