The Bearer has some accounts for the service of an escort to Colo Innes when he was sent by the President to Kentucky. It seems that they have lain several days with Mr Simmons for settlement. The Bearer wants to leave town to-morrow. He applies to me, because the employment of Colonel Innes was in the line of the department of State. I know how apt Mr Simmons is to throw difficulties in the way of just settlements & therefore I have advised the applicant to see you in person.
