KNOW all Men by these Presents, That I, Mihael Montgomery [undecipherable: late] a [undecipherable: soldier] in [undecipherable: Major Hazen's] Regiment in the [undecipherable: continental] army have constituted, made, and appointed my truely and loving Friend, James [undecipherable: Humphreys] of the City of [undecipherable] [undecipherable] in the State of [undecipherable: Pennsylvania] my true and lawful Attorney, for me and in my Name and Stead, and for my Use, to ask, demand, recover, and receive all such Sum and Sums of Money, Debts, Rents, Wares, Dues, Accounts, and other Demands whatsoever; also, all other Emoluments that may be due to me from the [undecipherable: United States] or any [undecipherable: particular] State Whatsoever for my [undecipherable: Service] in the [undecipherable: Continental army] aforesaid [undecipherable] in the Regiment above mentioned
giving and granting unto my said Attorney, by these Presents, my full Power, Strength, and Authority, in and about the Premises, to have, use, and take all lawful Ways and Means, in my Name, for the Recovery thereof; and, upon the Receipt of any such Debts, Dues, or any other Thing or Things, Acquittances or other Discharges, for me and in my Name to make, seal, and deliver all and every other Act and Acts in the Law whatsoever, necessary to be done and about the Premises, as fully, largely, and amply, to all Intents and Purposes, as I might or could do, if I were personally present. And I do also empower my said Attorney, by these Presents, to make one or more Substitutes under him, for the Purposes above mentioned.
