Sir, Savannah, April 5^th, 1796 [Received From State of Georgia Nov. [undecipherable] R.G.O. No [undecipherable]] I did not receive your favor of the 26^th Decem^r last until the 7^th in ulto. The Mail by which it came having been carried into North Carolina in consequence of springing a leak was detained thus many weeks, which is the reason given by the Master for the delay. Colonel Gaither being at Saint Mary, I was under the necessity of opening your letter, knowing it was on public business, in order that I might get a sight of the bill of lading, and be informed of the destination of the [undecipherable] Stores; and I have to acquaint you, that the invoice was conformable to the bill of lading.
