[Canton [undecipherable] Freeman Recd 25 April Ans.] Savannah 4^th April 1796. Sir I wrote you from Charleston on the 10^th of last month and transmitted you duplicates of my letter of the 27^th of February and the papers therein mentioned. I arrived here on the 22^d ultimo — unfortunately Col. Pope the Q.M.M. had left on his return home, three days before — I have not therefore placed the money in his hands; but I have written to him to return to this place in order to receive it. x Enclosed is an estimate of pay due to the militia for the last year, agreeably to returns made by Col. Pope — I have directed him to bring with him the rolls that it may be compared therewith. I should be very glad if a decision were made on the large estimate and the money forwarded. I am teazed continually with applications upon this Subject. x I expect M^r McCall from the Southward — as soon as he arrives I shall send him up the country to Fort Fidius, and close the payments to the regulars for the last year.
