Middletown March 27^th 1796 Sir I have received your letter of the 14^th Instant with the inclosed Receipt Roll, for myself and men for the months of January & Feb^ry 1796 amounting to one Hundred thirty five Dollars & forty five Cents— On my first Mustering Peter Catton at this Randezvoue I inclosed you a Certificate from Charles Hyde Q^r Master of y^e 1^st Sub Legion mentioning to what time Catton was paid, the Muster & Pay Rolls was made agreable to said Certificate which remarks you will find on said Rolls— the pay of John Bennett, & Nathan Randall has not been forwarded for the months of October & november 1795. as you will find by applying to the Rolls— James Trowbridge I find to be a bad man I have lost more by him then the Sum you mentioned— if I obtain mine I will use my endeavour to secure that for the Public but we may leave it over— I am your W^m Simmons Esq^r Humble Serv^t acc^t War Department Edward Miller Cap^t 2^d S^t [Cap^t Edward Miller recd 21 March ans^d 22 April] [William Simmons Esq^r Aud^r Department of War Philadelphia] [51 Mort]
