Wishing to make up the balance which I owe the United States for advances of pay, & never put my name yet in any pay Roll – Although I am, I suppose somewhat in arrear yet, I take the liberty to inform you that the state of my affairs will force me to draw pay from this month – begging you to postpone a final Settlement to some future period
