Sir I forward to you the authentic piece which you desired to be produced. for a better intelligence of it I will beg you to remember that When I was called in by Major Rivardi on the 5^th of May 1795 & by him mentioned to the Secretary of war, my appointment was 45 dollars per month, & remained on the same footing for three months. On the 5^th of August the Secretary at war was pleased to raise my ap­pointment to the rate of two dollars per day, & I was paid accordingly up to the 3^d of November, on the bills [strikethrough: d]drawn in my favor by Major Rivardi.
