Sir,
I have received your letter of the 24th ultimo acknowledging mine of the 18th and on the 8th instant another letter from you [strikethrough: from you [undecipherable]] [undecipherable] that Nicholas [undecipherable] [undecipherable] would pay me [undecipherable] Thousand, One Hundred, Eighty Four Dollars, and Ninety Two Cents, for the hay, forage, and Subsistance of the Corps at West Point. I wrote you on the 5th of February that he has been paid at this place for the months of December and January, and I now inclose you the Commandants orders to me to make the payment.

is on the pay roll for January, but being as invalide was discharged by the Secretary of War on the 16th of February. I was ordered by the Commandant not to pay him his arrears of pay, but as the man had to travel to North Carolina, and had no money in his possession, I have advanced him what his pay from the 1st of January [undecipherable] would amount to, and am [undecipherable] if the charge be deemed inadmissible to [undecipherable] the [undecipherable]. Your directions on the Subjects of Dr Griffith and Jordan Kersey will be attended to, and will prevent future mistakes.
