New London February 29^th 1796 Sir John Stiles has at length after much hesitation and doubt what steps he would take finally abandoned us, he has been a serviceable man but I think his departure will by no means injure the Publick business. I have given him an order on you for the balance of his claims on the Publick not in my hands which I acquaint you will please pay when presented to you.
