[Address panel: Accountant in Military Department / Post Office] [A/P postal mark] [BOSTON] [Nathaniel Gorham / No. 11 [undecipherable] / [undecipherable] 3 Jan[undecipherable]] Boston march 8 1796 By virtue of the within Letter from W^m Semmons Accountant in the war Departments dated Feby 27^th 1796 I have received of Nathaniel Gorham Supervisor Five hundred dollars for which sum I acknowledge myself accountable (Signed) [Ingersoll] Sir Boston April 4^th 1796 The within letter is a Copy of one from you to Cap Ingersole, who called on me and wished to receive the money you mentioned should be forwarded to me on his Account. In consequence of which I paid him five hundred dollars as appears by the rect above — I will thank you put this business in a proper line, by sending me directions as usual to pay so much money to Cap Ingersoll — when I shall deliver him his letter from you — taking his open rect for the money — I am Sir, Your Hum^ble Ser^t N Gorham M[ost] W^m Semmons Esq^r Department of War Accountants Office Sir, February 27. 1796 I herewith [received?] your letter of the 6^th Inst enclosing your account for Pay & Subsistence, for the year 1795 — I [refer?] to M^r [Bull?] late Pay Master, I Sh[all] for information agreeable to your request of the time you received your Pay to — but he can give me no information thereof, as the Payments did not extend further than the 1 [April?] 1794 — The Account must therefore be suspended until information arises from M^r Swan, P.M.G. to whom I shall this day write on the subject.
