I have received your letter of the 29th Ulto when your vouchers are forwarded to your Recruiting Account you mention the account proper will be placed to your Credit here. If you know the circumstance to be a fact in regards to the deserter you mention to have been apprehended you may pay the reward allowed by Congress, giving your Certificate thereof and taking the mans Receipt, which together will be considered as a Voucher for the payment and accordingly be admitted to your Credit. There however would be a propriety in deducting the Amt from his pay; of this you can give information to the Commanding Officer. —
