Pittsburg 30^th January 1796 Sir Your letter of the 22^d instant is this moment come to hand but the post arriving one day later than his usual time is anxious to set off without a moments delay — I have therefore only time to say that during the time I have been in public Business I have not experienced a disappointment that mortified me so much as not receiving a remittance by this post — I had every reason to expect at least the Balance of my last Estimate Viz. Dollars 2198. 90 cents & in addition to which I expected a considerable sum on account of the Balance due me by the Q. M. G. with^th these Expectations I had applied to the I^st Department 1000. dollars of the Money put into my Hands for pay Forage & Subsistence of the troops at the upper posts of the Ohio & requisite [undecipherable] & for a considerable part of this Money I am now called upon — You can therefore readily immagnine my Embarysment & particularly as I had prepared on closing my Accounts to the end of last year to set off for your City on monday next, but without cash I cannot move from this place. I shall however make an Effort to raise as much money on Drafts on you as may enable me to discharge the most pressing accounts, and by that means perhaps be at liberty still to make you my intended visit The letter to Gen^l Putnam is sent forward and Postage paid NB Be pleased to inform Col^o O'Hara of my Embarysment.
